Plastic bag production begins with film blowing: plastic granules are melted, extruded through a circular die and inflated into a continuous tube of film. The film is then printed if required, and finally cut and sealed into finished bags. The equipment needed depends on your bag type, the film structure and whether printing is required.

Rolangear supplies film blowing machines across single-screw, double-layer and three-layer co-extrusion configurations, including rotary die head machines, HD/LDPE machines, PP film blowing machines and high-speed mini film blowing machines. The catalogue also includes film blowing and gravure printing units, PE extruder and printing machines, and plastic bag sealing and cutting machines.

This suits packaging manufacturers producing bags for their local market, and businesses that currently buy bags in and want to produce them. Because film blowing, printing and bag making are separate stages, the line can be built up progressively.

Production process

  1. Raw Material Preparation

    Plastic granules and any additives or masterbatch are prepared to the required formula.

  2. Material Mixing and Feeding

    Material is mixed and fed into the extruder hopper.

  3. Film Blowing

    Melted material is extruded through a circular die and inflated into a film tube, then cooled and wound.

  4. Printing

    Where printed bags are required, film passes through a gravure or flexographic printing unit.

  5. Bag Making, Sealing and Cutting

    Film is sealed and cut into the finished bag format.

  6. Inspection and Packing

    Finished bags are inspected, counted and packed.

Equipment in this production line

A plastic bag line is normally built from the following equipment groups:

  • Film blowing — single-screw, double-layer or three-layer co-extrusion machines producing the film tube.
  • Printing — gravure or flexographic printing units where printed bags are required.
  • Bag making — sealing and cutting machines producing the finished bag format.
  • Sealing — continuous and pedal sealing machines for finishing and secondary packaging.

Factory requirements

Film blowing requires vertical clearance above the extruder for the film bubble and haul-off tower. Floor space is required for the extrusion line, printing and bag making in sequence, plus granule and finished goods storage. Three-phase electrical supply and cooling are required; specific requirements depend on the equipment selected and are confirmed in the technical proposal.
